The History of the TJMCOAA

Dear TJMC overseas alumni:

Have you ever wondered whether we TJMC overseas alumni could like everyone else have an alumni association on the behalf of our own?  Have you ever actually wished to have one to care your interests and to offer you services that might help you live a better life abroad?  Well, if you have (we believe you have), you were not alone.  We, 24 members of the first committee of the TJMCOAA, were among you, but this time we waited no longer and set out together to have finally developed our wishes into the real establishment of the TJMCOAA, a dream organization ever for our entire alumni community.

As a lucky generation, we have been offered an opportunity to pursue our professional or personal dreams oversea.  Over two decades, estimated several thousands of TJMC alumni are now living and working abroad.  Along with a growing population of overseas alumni, a desire for an alumni organization is growing as well.  This has led to the creation of many alumni associations mainly based on regions and classes.  While region- and class-based associations have their own reasons to exist, an overall association to cover all alumni in every corner of the world becomes increasingly necessary.  To this end, in the late summer of 2004, a group of regionally-active alumni from around the world, including the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia and southeastern Asia (see a list of committee members in this website), united online for discussing and evaluating the possibility of creating such an association.  An overwhelmingly positive conclusion was fortunately drawn by this founding group, which was then quickly translated into enormous actions purporting to establish an overall alumni association for its first time.  The new association is named the TJMCOAA and aims to unite all pre-existing region- and class-based associations together.  Through incredibly hard and awesome work of the founding group, many difficulties have been overcome and several milestone steps towards to creating this association have been timely accomplished: composing a thoughtful Bylaw, assembling a well-represented committee, electing capable Presidents, and building up an attractive website.  Now, here comes a thrilling and historical moment: a birth of a first overall TJMCOAA for all of our alumni fellows.

The TJMCOAA intends to be your sweet home that was created and will be operated by the you and for the you.  We believe that the TJMCOAA will play an irreplaceable role in many aspects of your oversea life.  We hope that you will offer us an opportunity and trust for quality and timely services that we are eager to provide you in a long period of time.  We also sincerely wish that many beautiful things would happen to our society as a result of the establishment of this organization.

Lastly, as a non-profit organization, we committee members, on a volunteer basis, were and are generously and enthusiastically donating our time, efforts, and money to keep this health and strong association running even healthier and stronger.  We are doing this because we deem we are helping others for good and because you deserve our services since we have once studied in the same loved college.  Likewise, your generosities in many forms in supporting this association will be greatly needed and appreciated.
